Canine Epilepsy Research
The University of Missouri is conducting research into Canine Epilepsy. This is something that has shown up in our breed both in Europe and North America. There is no simple genetic basis for seizures since seizures are a symptom of many medical disorders, but knowing the most we can about their genetic basis is important for the future of the breed.
Seizures are called idiopathic epilepsy only when all known medical causes of seizures have been ruled out.
The American Norrbottenspets Association (the US breed club) is officially supporting this research. While the CNC has no official position on it at this time, here is the link to the research website University of Missouri Canine Epilepsy Research program.
